Why Telehealth?
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and shut down much of the world in March 2020, counseling moved online and into telehealth in a major way. Growing Grounded Counseling’s founder, Joy Daigle Book, began to see large numbers of clients through telehealth for the first time. At first, she was concerned about how physical distance would impact her ability to connect with her clients. However, what she saw quickly changed her mind! For many people, telehealth has turned out to be a BETTER way to connect—to the point that even with in-person counseling available again, Growing Grounded Counseling sees more clients through telehealth than in-person.
Here’s why tele-health works!
YOU pick the space
When you meet with a
counselor, you are taking an important step to face the challenges in your
life. You are opening yourself up to tough conversations and getting ready to
tackle the obstacles which are keeping you from the life you want. We have
found that, for many people, being able to pick a location where you feel safe
and comfortable helps the client feel more confident to share and tackle the
challenges they face.
You have time for this!
Time limitations are a commonly cited reason why individuals do not seek counseling. When a counseling session requires you to travel to the counselor’s office, a 50 minute session can require twice that time or more! Telehealth helps make counseling more accessible to those who struggle to fit both the appointment and travel into their day.
Co-counselors are welcome
At Growing Grounded
Counseling, we have found that many of our clients have pets at home who are a
huge support for their mental health. We recognize that these four-footed
companions are an important part of our clients’ strategies for improving their
lives and reaching their goals. Telehealth allows you to invite your
co-counselors to the sessions. It even strategize with your counselor about how
you can work with your pets outside of session.
