Specialities

At Growing Grounded Counseling, we see therapy as a tool to help each client become grounded in their understanding of themselves, their strengths, and their goals. One they understand themselves, the work of therapy is to grow to reach each client’s individual goals for themselves. We work with clients facing many sorts of challenges, but specialize in the areas listed below.

ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder)

At GGC we don’t like the title “disorder,” so we just call this condition ADHD. ADHD is a brain type more than a disorder and individuals with ADHD have strengths and weaknesses tied to their neurodiverse brains. We work with ADHD clients to help them develop the skills they need to compensate for the areas of weakness while building on their strengths. We also work to help clients grow in their confidence in themselves and in their relationship with others.

ASD (Autism Spectrum Disorder)

ASD clients are on a broad spectrum, so our process with each client is unique. We specialize in working with high-functioning ASD clients by helping them recognize their strengths while also learning to navigate the social interactions in their life. Treating anxiety from confusion about social cues and developing and pursuing the client’s life goals are also a part of treatment.

Anxiety

Anxiety Is our body’s natural way to help us pay attention to danger or important concerns in our lives. As such, anxiety is important to life, but when our anxiety tries to take over, we need to seek treatment. GGC works with children, teens, and adults who struggle with social anxiety, general anxiety, and adjustment disorders to give them the tools to process their anxiety. We help them develop the skills to move through anxiety to life where anxiety does not control them!

Depression

All people have times in life when we are sad, but depression is something different. Depression is a persistent sadness that is tied to a loss of interest in other things. Teens will often go through a season of depression, but depression is treatable! Our work with clients who are struggling with depression includes existential work on finding purpose in life, developing healthy life patterns which encourage activity and engagement, and processing events which have triggered depression so the client can move forward.

Perinatal/Postnatal Care

The importance of holistic perinatal heath care including mental health care was one of the needs which drove the founding of Growing Grounded Counseling. Many women struggle to receive the care they need during this pivotal time in their lives. As a result, Growing Grounded is committed to offering high quality counseling for women who are struggling during this season. Some perinatal counseling is brief, some is long term, but GGC is here to help for as long as necessary!

Trauma (PTSD, Developmental/Childhood Trauma)

Trauma is, unfortunately, a common part of many of our lives. Recent research has show how trauma impacts our minds and bodies in far-reaching and long-lasting ways. Additionally, we have learned that many people don’t just “get over” the traumatic events from our past. The therapists at Growing Grounded Counseling work with survivors of childhood abuse, military veterans and active duty servicepeople, and survivors of other types of trauma to help them process their trauma in ways which will allow them to get to a place where trauma does not control them.
