Because your health matters.

Mental Health Moment: Mindfulness

Since you have come to this website, you (or someone you care about) are probably struggling with your mental health. You might be struggling with anxiety, depression, adjusting to new realities of life, trauma, struggles with attention, or any of a long list of other challenges. Facing these challenges can feel lonely and overwhelming. We want you to know you are not alone. Just like most people face challenges to their physical health for which they seek treatment and return to health, so most people also face mental health challenges. There are tools which can help you get on the road to wellness. Working with a mental health professional is one of these tools, but many of the resources are already inside you.

Before you explore our webpage, we would like to invite you to take a few moments to ground yourself.

Start by taking a deep breath in. Fill every corner of your lungs.

Hold it for a moment.

Then release it.

Breathe deeply again and allow your senses to become aware of where you are.

Listen to the sounds around you. Feel your heart beat.

If your concerns want to dominate your thoughts, don’t try to fight them. Notice them. Then, just like a bubble, let them pop.

Feel the floor under your toes and desk or chair under your fingers.

Feel the warmth or the cold.

Be present wherever you are.

This is you. You are enough.

Take as much time as you need. Once you are ready, come and explore our website. Mental health is our job, but it is also our passion. We want to help you thrive. Welcome to this space and please contact us if we can help answer any questions!

What is Professional Counseling?

Counseling is a collaborative effort between the counselor and client. Professional counselors help clients identify goals and potential solutions to problems which cause emotional turmoil; seek to improve communication and coping skills; strengthen self-esteem; and promote behavior change and optimal mental health. A counselor is trained to help you work through the challenges their clients are facing and reach the goals their clients set. Counselors may use tools like the mindfulness exercise above, but that is just the beginning. Counselors will also help each client to delve much deeper into their lives.

How Long does Counseling Take?

Ideally, counseling is terminated when the problem that you pursued counseling for becomes more manageable or is resolved. Our goal at Growing Grounded Counseling is to help you gain the tools and insight you need to be able to live well in the face of life’s challenges. Each client is unique, but our counselors commonly meet with a new client weekly while the client works to get a handle on the struggles which brought them to counseling. As this initial challenge is addressed, counseling sessions often move to biweekly and then monthly or as-needed. Our goal is to equip our clients with tools for life, support you as you learn to live in ways that support your mental health, and then cheer you on as you face the world!
